The Last Road North has been named one of the best books of 2014 by PDN

Alaska’s Dalton Highway is the northernmost road in America, and cuts through the most magnificent landscape one can imagine. The road was constructed in 1974 as the sole corridor between Fairbanks and the oil fields at Prudhoe Bay, on the coast of the Arctic Ocean. For five years, off and on, I drove. North and South. Boom and bust. I went looking for the frontier we were promised, and found a dirt road that serves as the physical and psychological line between wilderness and oil.
